Home Visits

If possible please try to telephone reception on 0161 271 3040 before 10:30 if you require a home visit.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.

A doctor can see several patients in the time it takes to perform a home visit on one patient. Also he/she would be better able to examine you in the surgery with more equipment to hand. Hence, it is important that home visits are restricted to those who are housebound or too ill to be seen in surgery.

Many problems can be resolved by telephone, in consultation with a doctor, so a GP may choose to call the patient first to discuss the problem. If you are in doubt, you can request a “telephone consultation” rather than a home visit.

You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
